Statement by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Jakarta on the Occasion of Nakba Day – 2024 (Palestinian Catastrophe Day)
May 14, 1948, is a reminder of one of the most bitter catastrophes in human history. This malevolent event caused the most sorrowful humanitarian crisis of the recent century, widespread insecurity in the Middle East, the unjust usurpation of Palestinian land, the genocide of Palestinians, and severe violations of the fundamental human rights of the original inhabitants of this sacred land.
In this tragic catastrophe, rightly named "Nakba Day,"- Day of Catastrophe- the Zionist apartheid regime was formed, resulting in the displacement of millions of Palestinians from their historical homeland. The desecration of the sacred sites and honor of Muslims and Christians, the deprivation of religious freedom for the inhabitants of this land, targeted assassinations of activists and ordinary Palestinians, the destruction of homes, urban facilities, farms, and livelihoods, and the expansion of settlements contrary to international resolutions and decrees are examples of the dark history of this regime in violating fundamental principles of international law and humanitarian rights. These actions have been championed by the Western backers of this regime, particularly the United States, as a constant practice of the Zionist regime over the past decades.
This year, the nefarious nature of this regime has become more evident to the global community, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Palestinians, trapped in what is the largest natural prison in the world, have endured intense bombardments analogous only to the effects of American nuclear bombs. Such crimes, unprecedented in human history against civilians, women, and children on such a large scale, have occurred. The Zionist regime's actions against the people of this region constitute gross and blatant violations of the fundamental principles of international law and human rights. Unfortunately, the silence, passivity, and inaction of the false claimants of human rights over the years have turned into explicit heavy military support for this apartheid regime.
The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the crimes of the child-killing Zionist regime against the Palestinian people and the people of the region from the inception of this nefarious entity and the great genocide against the defenseless people of Gaza. Additionally, it emphasizes the necessity for deterrent actions by responsible international bodies to stop the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza and support the Palestinian people. Iran reaffirms its solidarity with this oppressed nation and its support for the legitimate aspirations and resistance of the Palestinian people in their pursuit of liberating the occupied territories and establishing an independent state with Beit Al-Muqaddas as its capital.
The democratic solution proposed by the Islamic Republic of Iran for resolving the crisis of the occupation of Palestine is the most logical and just plan. It includes an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, an end to the occupation throughout Palestine, and the holding of a general referendum with the participation of all original inhabitants of this land, including Muslims, Christians, and Jews, to exercise their right to self-determination and establish their political system.
